I like to take a bowl of fresh fruit salad for my lunch whenever I don’t feel like cooking an elaborate meal. I also don’t feel like missing my meal because of mint leaves & chaat masala, the star ingredients used in here. So anyone who wants to reduce the in-take of carbs can try this salad as it satiates one’s hunger. Besides we can serve this delicious fruit salad to children who refuse to take fruits, as they like the flavor of chaat masala.
Salad making is all about balancing color, texture and flavor; I used crunchy apple & squishy banana for texture, sweet green grapes & sour black grapes for adding color, and I also use lemon juice to prevent oxidation. We can add other fruits like dates, fresh figs, guava, papaya, pear, pineapple, pomegranate, raisins, etc. but generally it is not advisable to add too many fruits into a salad bowl. It is preferred to take fruit salad immediately after chopping the fruits rather than refrigerated for few hours. Whipped cream or ice cream may not be required for this salad as they don’t go well with chaat masala.
It is safe to use organic fruits for salads. In either case it is always better to wash well before chopping into bite-sized pieces. I prefer to take fresh native fruits than canned or hybrid fruits; I do not want to peel apple. So I cleaned well to remove chemicals (if any) that help to increase shelf life.
If you do not have chaat masala, you can sprinkle rock salt (pink salt) and roasted cumin seeds powder.
