Murungai keerai idli

Drumstick leaves (moringa leaves or murungai keerai) contain all the nutrients required for active mind & body. So murungai keerai idli is the perfect breakfast for the energetic children, dynamic professionals and busy women as it meets their daily dietary requirements. Apparently, weight-watchers, diabetics, and all the health-conscious people prefer to take these idli over plain idli. These are so filling compared to plain idlis. Hence we can reduce the intake of carbs to a good extent.

How to prepare murungai keerai idli:

This is one of the easiest keerai recipes compared to the recipes of kootu, poriyal, masiyal, etc. using fresh greens. It is as easy as making an ordinary idli. We can simply add a handful of fresh clean drumstick leaves into the idli batter, pour into idli moulds and then steam them for 5 to 7 minutes. Similarly, we can prepare keerai idli using other greens like arai keerai, siru keerai, mulai keerai, thandu keerai, ponnanganni, etc. We can add the delicious texture and also fortify the plain idlis simply by adding fresh locally grown greens into the batter.

We can also encourage kids to take these nutrient-rich idli by serving them with spicy chutney and/or sambar.
