Peas Pulao

Pulao is a simple but a delicious rice dish. We usually prepare pulao with colorful vegetables like fresh green peas, diced carrots, corn kernels, broccoli florets, etc. It is so captivating to see the rice dish dotted with colorful veggies. Hence it can be served to the children and also to the guests at the family gatherings. Now I have prepared an aromatic green peas pulao garnished with fresh coriander leaves.

We can serve pulao with any spicy vegetable gravy or dal and we can also pack the pulao for children’s lunch. Here I have served chapathi & pulao with creamy dal tadka & spicy mushroom masala

Peas Pulao recipe:

Here I have used ghee-roasted green cardamom, red chillies & cumin seeds for adding an appetizing aroma. Now lets look into the recipe below:

Serves : 2


  1. Basmati rice – ½ cup
  2. Water – 1 cup
  3. Fresh peas – ¼ cup
  4. Ghee or any neutral oil – 1 tsp
  5. Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
  6. Cardamom – 1 No.
  7. Red chilli – 2 Nos.
  8. Salt – ½ tsp
  9. Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

Cooking instructions:

  • Wash rice and keep aside.
  • Heat a pan with oil (or ghee) and add cumin, cardamom & red chilli.
  • Add washed rice and saute for 30 sec.
  • Add fresh peas, water & salt and bring it to a boil.
  • Close the pan and simmer until rice is cooked soft (approx 10 min).
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving.

Recipe notes:

  • Red chillies are added only for its aroma not for its heat, so it is not required to break them while frying.
  • I find the flavour of red chillies satisfying, but if you want you can sprinkle some white pepper powder.
  • We prepare a rice dish by simply sautéing sliced onion or we can add other vegetables to make it fortified with vitamins & minerals.
